Our Story
Peak 3 was founded in 2014 to raise the bar on film and video production in Alaska. Since then, our work has taken us all over the state. From urban areas of Anchorage, Fairbanks, and Juneau to the hub communities of Nome, Unalaska, Kotzebue, Bethel, Utqiagvik, Dillingham, Naknek, and beyond to surrounding villages and far into the wilderness.
We have been witness to whale hunts, great races, timeless dances, and ceremonies. We know and understand the industries that power our economy and have a deep respect for those who have called this place home for millennia. Best of all, we have been recipients of countless stories, from harrowing to hilarious.
We are inspired by Alaska and the passion of the people who have chosen to make this place home, both new and old. As locals, we want to see this state thrive and feel it is our mission to share the stories of those who live here and are working hard to build a better future in Alaska.
Zak Melms
Producer / Director of Photography
As a life-long Alaskan Zak is driven to meet every photographic opportunity with curiosity and a certainty that each day offers the chance to grow his craft. He possesses the kind of attitude and diverse skill set that are essential to translating abstract creative ideas to concrete artistic reality. Whether flying a drone in the subzero arctic temperatures filming an Inupiat whale hunt, or making the best use of unobtrusive handheld work to find small grace notes amongst school children in a Nepalese village. Zak’s quiet framing creates transcendent, timeless images that augment production value on every project with which he is involved.
Zak’s experience encompasses 16 years in the industry behind the lens, 5 years with a Part 107 Drone License. His work has been featured by outlets including National Geographic, Discovery, NOVA, Modern Marvels and the History Channel.
